Wilhelm Hamm Centre of HOPE, Pudupattinam, Tamil Nadu


HOPE Foundation’s earliest work in Pudupattinam and surrounding villages started off on Dec 27, 2004, with provision of basic needs and livelihood packages to the Tsunami victims. In the succeeding months, our presence, actively aided by our Donors, helped provide them quality Medical, Educational, Sanitation and Employment services. At present, HOPE Foundation runs the following programs for the Community:-

1. English Medium Primary School
2. Primary Health clinic
3. Livelhood generation - including Vocational training centre
4. Health counseling services
5. Youth development - includes imparting Civic Values, Public Sanitaion and building Leadership

The Germany based HR group is the prime sponsorer of the Centre.

    Januray -09

    WHCOH - HOPE foundation school children and ICOH - Wall Mart tuition centre children came together to celebrate 60th Republic day. All the children dressed neatly in blue uniform assembled at 7am in the morning. All of them had national flag on their dress and held flag on their hand. They stood cheerfully greeting one another happy Republic Day.

    December -08
    Christmas Celebration
     Christmas celebration was with the school children was held on 20th December; children came to X-mas celebration with colourful dresses they looked like little angels, Vasanth of class III dressed as Santa clause and gave sweets to the children.
    What is X-mas with out carols, Children from Pudupattinam fishermen colony for the first time experienced the feeling of X-mas through their wards performing x-mas carols.Children from 1st standard sang Feliznavidad, 2nd standard performed Fa-La-La-la and class 3 children performed Joy to the world ,Drummer boy and Jinngle bells.It was great time of the joy and fun, cakes and sweets were distributed for the children.Teachers shared gifts with each other and food with each other and wished each other Happy X-mas and New year.Read More >>

    Children's Day Celebration
    Every year 14th of November we celebrate Children’s Day to remark the Birth day of our freedom fighter Jawaharlal Nehru all the children came to school in colour ful dresses.The program started with a welcome dance by Ravin Kumar of III rd standard. The guest’s Local counselor & Panchayat members were honored and welcomed by School Head mistress. From the KG section to III rd standard performed their group activities ,Patriortic songs and I standard, II standard children gave speech about Nehru and the greatness of Children’s day. 3rd standard children taught some crafts work and the boys performed a play about forest and animal preservation. Counselor gave a speech and he was amazed to see the children’s performance. After National Anthem snacks were distributed to the children in their classes. Read More>>

     On 6.10.08 Gracy Young from United States Visited our School along with Mrs.Malar director of Women’s Children Program,HOPE foundation and She was given a warm welcome by our children and the visited all the classrooms and she felt very joyful to see our children .Read More>>

    Teacher's Day
     September is very specials month for the teachers, we celebrated the “Teachers Day” in school. On 5th Friday, september2008 our school celebrated the Teachers day. The celebration stared at the special assembly conducted by the students of primary section. A group of students from 3rd standard sang a song to appreciate the teachers, written by the students. Few children shared about the teachers. Guest of the day, Mr. Kannahiahn a community representative spoke about the valuable rule of teacher to develop a child. In conclusion he conveyed his best wishes and distributed the souvenirs to the teachers. Read More >>

    Independence day

     On 15th August 2008 School celebrated 61st Independence Day of India. The celebrations started with flag hosting by the chief guest Mrs. Padma Venkatraman , Vice President , Women India Association ( Daughter of former Indian President Mr. R. Venkataraman) Children and elders Saluted the flag and took pledge followed by flag hosting. The children welcomed the guests with flowers and shawl. Students of class III Performed patriotic dance “vande matharam” followed by patriotic songs / speech presentation and fancy dress display of freedom fighters of India etc.,. Mrs. Venkataraman in her speech appreciated the children and staff for celebrating the day in very meaningful way. Mr. Kannaiyan, Panchyath representative shared about his joy to see the children getting good education under the leadership of HOPE foundation and support of HR group. Mr. Sudhakar, Training officer, Nehuru Yuva Kendra Sanghathan appreciated the children confidence level especially English speaking and he also encouraged the parents to build their children and support them to come up in their life.     Classical Dance Class

    For the first time the fishermen colony children got an exposure to learn Bharathanatyam- Indian dance.Mrs. Sarasu Lakshmi, Director of Pallava Natiya Accademy inaugurated the dance training program for the children of HOPE foundation school, Pudupattinam Kuppam. In the inaugural speech she spoke about the benefits and goodness of dancing and she insisted the parents to encourage their children to participate in dance program which helps them to develop their confidence. Students of Pallava Natiya Academy performed few bharatha Natiyam Dance. Parents enjoyed the dance hoping to see their children would dance like them one day.     Medical Camp


     On 27th “LIFE HELP HEALTH SERVICES” with the support of AWO International, Germany organized a Screening Medical Camp for the school children. 74 students (age group 3-6 years) of UKG and 1st standard screened at the medical camp. The objective of the cam to identify the children with special needs and general medical check up. Dr. Karthick of Kilpauk Medical college along with the LHS medical staff screen the children interacted with Parents and their class teachers. Read More>>

    Summer Camp

    In the month of April school organized a special summer camp for the students. About 20 students participated in the camp. Children had a chance take part in activities like craft work, painting, drawing, singing, indoor games, etc. On the last day of the camp children were taken to Crocodile Park and all they had a great time.     HOPE Worldwide Dignitaries visited WHCOH

     On 14th Monday, Dr. Mark Ottenweller, Global HIV/AIDS coordinator and Dr. Gary Jacques, Director of Global Programs of HOPE worldwide, Philadelphia along with Dr. Ashok Prabath , CPO, HOPE visited the WHCOH and fishermen village. They interacted with the staff and community members. The fishermen offered them ride in the Fishing boat they were excited and went along with the fishermen experienced, fishing skills.     "Science Express" Educational Tour

    On 2nd March, 2008 (Sunday), with the support of the chemical company BASF, HOPE foundation (WHCOH, Pudupattinam) organized a “Science Express” educational tour for the 35 High School students from the Kanapathy Chettikulam fishermen hamlet near Pondicherry.

    Science Express”, an exhibition on 13 rail A/C coaches designed by the Science and Technology Department of India and Germany. The German Chancellor Ms. Angela Merkel and the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had inaugurated it on 30th October 2007 at the Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi. >>Read More

    NICP Workshop for the Parents

     On 28th Feb Thursday HOPE foundation organized a special workshop for parents with the support of NICP (National Initiative for Child Protection) and Child line India Foundation at Pavilion I of HOPE Foundation School. The workshop started by lighting the inaugural lamp by the dignitaries. Workshop started with convocation and welcome speech by Mrs. Nalini. School children welcomed the guests & Parents. In her welcome speech she appreciated all the parents of their support for the school. Children from HOPE school welcomed the guests. The chief guest Mr. Ramanthan, superintend of Child Welfare committee, spoke about the different characteristics of “Parent – child” relationship.

    Panchayat Representative Meeting
     On 30th Wednesday Jan 08 we had organized a special meeting for the newly elected panchyath representatives of Pudupattinam fishermen colony. The Chief Program officer Dr. Prabath and the program director appreciated the previous Panchyath representatives and honored them with shawl and souvenir. The previous representatives introduced the new members to the HOPE and the CPO honored and welcomed the new representatives with shawl and souvenir followed by discussion on rehabilitation program issues and future plan.     Christmas Celebration

    On 22nd December, Christmas celebration was organized in the new school premises. The event was held between 10.00 am to 12.00 noon. Mr.Lakshmen, Panchyath member and the HOPE staff came to celebrate along with the children. Students from 1st and 2nd standard sung some Christmas songs along with headmistress Mrs.Nalini kagoo. Children enjoyed the singing and snacks. Staff also had special time to appreciate and exchange gifts to each other.

    WHCOH SCHOOL Inauguration


    20th November 2007 on the occasion of Universal Children’s Day ,Dr.Matthias Handle the CEO of HR Group (Germany) along with Mr. Sushil Talwar, Country Manager, HR group(India) inaugurated the Wilhelm Hamm centre of HOPE” HOPE Foundation School constructed for the tsunami-affected children of Pudupattinam and Uyallikuppam fishermen hamlet.

    On 18th of October,2007 Madras Development Society organized a appreciation ceremony at Pachyappa’s College , Chennai.     Teachers Day Celebration

     On September 5th teacher’s day was celebrated, about 30 teachers from three Hope school gathered in Blue Lagoon (a family resort) the program started with welcome note by Madam Majula Headmistress of Kannaginagar School. Dr. Ashok Kumar Prabath CPO and Mrs. Malar vizhi prabath Director of women and children program were present on the occasion. We had time of sharing of our experience working with children. Dr. Ashok kumar Prabath CPO gave speech and encouraged the teachers and explained how important role teachers are playing in children’s life. Dr. Ashok distributed the gifts to all the teachers. After the lunch the teachers took walk to the beach and spent time with other teachers, after the evening tea the teachers departed, it was a memorable time. >> Read More
